Affiliate marketing can be a surprisingly simple way to make money online. In this article we will be talking about a few affiliate marketing myths that you should be aware of.
Our first misconception is that people assume that paid traffic is the only way to get a larger income.
The statement is true but not telling the entire story. Don’t get me wrong, videos, articles, and SEO can be powerful traffic sources. These methods are slow but they still do their job, and that is to funnel targeted visitors to your site. You have to love that free traffic. But yes, if you want to go beyond the regular affiliate commission checks and you want to make big money with affiliate marketing, then you’ll have to invest and re-invest your money in paid advertising such as Google Adwords. There are always rules to the exception, there are creative ways to makes lots of money with free methods. There some very experienced marketers who have made free traffic sources work for them. So if you want to be really successful, you can start off with the free marketing methods and then move on to the paid ones.
Another dangerous myth states that you shouldn’t enter a large market unless you have a large budget. The real fact is that the competition is much lower than you actually think it is. Also, the large numbers of affiliates you see promoting a product doesn’t tell the entire truth. Trust me, out of all of the affiliates promoting a product, only a few are making any respectable amount of commissions. In other words, 95% of the affiliates don’t make any money or just earn a small income, while the rest of 5% takes home the moolah. Basing all of your affiliate decisions on some perceived level of competition will slow down your progress.
Yet another myth is the you can’t make money unless you have thousands of visitors a month.
Thousands of monthly visitors won’t help you at all if they aren’t targeted. Actually, if you are not putting your efforts into generating targeted traffic then you are fooling yourself in thinking that you are going to make any money with “cold” traffic. You can drive a lot of traffic through various sources, but will it help you in any way if these people are not going to buy from you? Finding visitors who are ready to spend money on your offers that solve their problems is not hard. The number of site visitors alone won’t make you sales.
Now that you know these myths, do yourself a favor and don’t argue with the misinformed people who still believe in them because you will not only be wasting your time but also your peace of mind.
